Well, I must admit I got lost! I had to take a break and reassess. When you get lost you retrace your steps and see what went wrong.

I have been following breadcrumbs from one topic to another. The last effort which stalled was the holy Spirit. I was making the point which I know is true that dabbling in strange fire douses the move of the spirit. An accepted step in the Life in the Spirit seminar is renunciation of various spiritual practices laid down as unbiblical. This is very controversial because many of these practices have worked their way into many parts of the church.

I digressed to landmines that are in plain sight in secular recovery. The main one is God as we understand Him.

It is impossible to make peace with Bible if we demand God to be as we understand Him. Which is really God as we define Him. Unfortunately, we define God as eternally codependent. He is about our good as we define that good.

In many faith circles, God is how he has defined Himself in the Bible. in other circles, we get denominations who define their God as they wish him to be. This is completely understandable, but illogical. God is of no good unless He defines Himself. Unfortunately, we prefer to shop around for a more amenable higher power. I was in the Navy during the ’70s. There was a country where you could buy anything with the popular label. But they were all illegal copies. The spiritual marketplace is the same. You buy counterfeits that offer better results with friendlier details. There is no guarantee the spiritual forces that back this up are necessarily friendly. Just because they work for what you want is no guarantee they will set you free, What you want is not necessarily what is good for you in the eternal long run.

So the higher power you want is not necessarily the higher power you need. How is the drug or habit you want treating you?

The Bible is not the medicine we want, but it is what we desperately need. And I completely agree that is an awful pill to swallow. Often we professing Jesus folk get our ball so lost in the weeds that no one in their right mind would follow us. But ignore us and call out to Jesus. He will move all things to give you good advice. But remember there is going to be a war. The treasure is heavily defended, but you call on Jesus. He will send help to get you thru to Him. Again! Jesus will give you what you need. Him. And He will not give you what is bad for you.
