The only common thing about people is they are different. But you can find some common traits. People can always find faults if they have a need to. If you want to torment yourself research the different wings of recovery treatment and practice. Some Christian folk finds issues with some other faith-based recovery programs. Some other time I will inventory this niche of effort. Secular recovery groups use any excuse to critique Christian recovery. Some Christians criticize all recovery even Christian recovery as being spawned from the occult. Everybody says the others are statistically ineffective. I myself have backslidden into this practice. But there is a reasonable chance every wing of the effort for recovery from addiction and other issues has some success. For those people who by the grace of God find freedom, their particular method is successful. Is there any possibility that God can use multiple ways to gain freedom? This leaves some of us in the unenviable position of criticizing God for His work. That would be an awkward conversation with the Lord Someday.

Trust me in my 47 years of sobriety I have seen most all of it. I have tasted most of the options. By grace, I have survived.

The common denominator # 2 is God’s grace. A tool is only a tool. Most likely the tool is flawed. What matters is the craftsman in whose hand the tool turns into a healing grace.

Beware cursing the tool and forgetting the master who wields the tool.
