Good and bad church or group depends on the person. As I get older I realize everything depends on how well suited the person is to use the help offered. What a group offers and what the person is able to utilize are two different things. The next podcast is about an owner manual for both faith and Recovery. An owner’s manual generally has the tools you need and detailed instructions for installation. It also will tell what a good operation looks like and sources for service help.
So what are you looking for? You have a problem and you want help?
Anyone who says just come and all will be well is not being wholly honest. For both faith and recovery, you need to bring willingness to engage and change. A pastor I knew who started a reentry program for men coming out of incarceration often said something profound. “Change isn’t changing till it is change”
In AA you have to put in the work to see the result. You cannot say I am willing to do this and not that. In AA’s Big Book, there is a phase. ” Half measures availed nothing. We stood at the turning point.” Getting sober I had a mantra I told myself all the time. “You get what you need not what you want.”
Recovery takes work and commitment. The real deal takes doing what you may not like doing. But in the end, you will find stuff that you would hardly dare to hope for.
Faith requires a leap into an unknown world.
Really faith in Jesus requires everything you can’t keep in exchange for a life you can not lose.
I will explain more in Lazarus Recovery Podcast.
