What’s a Good Walk? What’s a good Program? Last time in the podcast I talked about the nasty words Good and Bad.

This podcast I am going to narrow down a bit.

For recovery people, they talk about how good is your program. For many Christians, it is how is your walk? Generally, this can be roughly translated as the same with differences.

In both places, there is a focus on actions versus talk. in human affairs, there are the ones that talk a good game, but their real actions don’t match. For the recovery arena, the question when things go south is how was their program. In churches, the question is how is their walk with the Lord.

Now, what does that mean?

In both arenas the words are different, but the meanings are similar. And the consequences are similar.

Let’s look at a normal person in AA sober for 6 months to five years. What is their program look like? What’s that mean? Always there is a checklist. Meetings? Check minimum 1 a week. recommended 1 a day. Are they actively working on the steps in a group? Do they have a sponsor overseeing their progress? Have they joined a group and are they active in service to the group? Are they following the suggestions like no dating relationships for the first year? Are they connected to a group and have friends in the group. Are they growing spiritually? Is their recovery at the top of their life choices? This would be judged as a solid program. The rewards are judged as a high probability they will stay sober and grow an ever-expanding and successful life. That is called a solid program.

Now in the church world, they will talk about how their walk is. Is their life obedient to the Lord? Are they consistently into bible study? Do they show the fruits of the Spirit? Love, joy, peace, long-suffering, meekness, mildness, and gentleness. I have known Christians whose walk was magnificent. And I have known people whose life exposed their poor walk.

Now let’s talk about the consequences. A poor program is like smoking it will catch up with you. Maybe you stay sober, but you leave wreckage behind you. Or you relapse and wreck everything which is dear in your life. Being an active drunk or addict is riding in a demolition derby over everything you hold dear. You will welcome death and perhaps find to your shock it is not the end.

In church good and bad are judged by your fellow companions on the journey. That is until you depart for your reward. The quality of the walk is everything.

Oops, I shot myself. Conviction much?
