As I journey my way thru this junction of Faith and Recovery I am learning a simple truth. No matter the differences there is one overriding principle in play. There is one common denominator. People are the common thing. My next podcast at Lazarus Recovery Podcast is about people. How their sameness makes the differences happen.

If old residents of the sober house are listening they know where my comments are coming from. My years running the sober house taught me lessons. My years in AA taught me lessons. My years in church taught me lessons. The Lord taught me lessons.

People are no surprise to the Lord! He knew the game He was getting into. People will make you break out in tears over the majesty of their vulnerable beauty. And they will slaughter you with the disappointment of their venal stupidity And all in the same package do you find these dichotomies.

Thus as I have worked at this Junction of Faith and Recovery I find no place immune from the beauty nor immune to the amazing stupidity.

I wish I could say one group has more than another. I can not.

I will tell one or two stories.

It is not unusual if you are in AA or NA to go to mammoth wakes. Men and women who have lived wonderful sobriety of love and service. These people have had more impact on desperate people than any saint in a chur.ch.

IN like manner I have been to wakes of no doubters. They were beloved saints of the living Christ. Their loss is heaven’s gain.

And I have seen predatory people of any gender who are black holes of deceit and destruction leaving only the wreckage. They are in both recovery and the church.

People bring blessings and cursing. This is the common denominator that people carry a lethal flaw.

Listen and we will discuss the lethal flaw.
