Why One was about Jesus in recovery. Let’s look at the question of why in the faith world. Surely faith world would have no issue with Jesus. A better question is Why does everyone have an issue with Jesus. The answer is simple. Jesus had opinions that usually conflicted with many people. Jewish folks assented to his execution because he said he was the Son of God and seemed to indicate He had the right to rearrange their understanding of how they worship and do religious business. If you think about this attitude of Jesus that said He had the right to speak for God the Father you can understand how that might be a key factor for his being turned over by the Romans for elimination. Strangely this attitude of right to proscribe behavior was and is the reason for his being set aside or redefined for the past two thousand years.
So for faith folks, they like Jesus just fine as long as they can define Him themselves.
So the why question in Faith is why we always try to define Him to our own taste. You say this is not so! Church history says different. Denominations are for the express purpose of defining theology to fit their own tastes. Some argue over the meaning of bible verses to get a different take on Jesus and what He meant. In our modern era, some argue the bible is full of errors and thus is not authoritative. So we are free to say Jesus said whatever we want Him to say. in a way this is honest. Jesus is fine as long as we get to say what he says and define what that means. Faith people can be more devious in their devoutness. Some Faith folks are a bit more elegant in their unbelief. Recovery folks are more honest in their reluctance to proclaim their faith in Jesus.
So, different folks ask why in different ways. The key question is who is Jesus and what He says about himself.
