As I think of the subjects of Recovery, Faith, Jesus, and the world I remember all of it is about people. I come from all these subjects. In some parts, they are all me. I am the drunk that marvels at the miracle of being sober day by day. I am the newly sober guy who is amazed that if I ask for help I get it. I am the AA fanatic who chases a girl into a prayer meeting and loses the girl and finds Jesus. I am the guy who stays sober on Jesus, the church, and a lot of craziness. I am the guy who stays sober despite life-challenging disappointments. I am a single parent. I am a survivor of stuff. I am in recovery from life.

What I want to say is that in all these topics are people. We are people who have to get over ourselves and listen to each other. The AA troop has to be able to listen to the Jesus freak. And the rabid pentecostal needs to hear the desperate junkie in terror of being dead in a second from driving addiction. Lives depend on us seeing each other as brothers and sisters with compassion for each other rather than suspicion. Be patient with me. I am a mixed breed. I am all of these!
